Joseph Edgar Bourque, a friend.
This was my favorite street picture. It was a picture of Joe, at that time I'd known him for 25 years. I did not talk to him that day I just took a few shots and went home. Looking at the picture, I became very emotional and and saw Joe in a very different way. From across the street I could not tell he had a hole in his shoe or what he was reading. We talked later and he gave me permission to use the picture.
I was hooked, I needed to recreate that emotional state felt in a picture and desperately wanted to know more about Joe and his life. He was a kind and generous soul, blessed whit many friends from all over the country. He had a deep faith, he may have had a hard life but Joe was a happy person, one who enjoyed life.
He is missed by many, he was dearly loved. About 150 people showed up at his memorial service, from city councillor to people living on the street, a very touching moment where stories about Joe were shared by the people who cared about him.
CBC published a nice article about Joseph, you can read it HERE
